Hey there — let’s talk about something that trips up almost every broadcast marketer and small business owner I meet.
They say, “I need to post more on social!” or “We should be running ads!” or “Let’s send an email blast!”
And I get it. We’ve all done it. But here’s the thing: if you start with tactics instead of your goal, you’ll just end up busy, not successful.
Step 1: Start with the Goal
Before you do anything, ask yourself: What do I actually want to happen?
Is your goal to get 5 new leads this month? Reconnect with past customers? Get people to your booth at the next show? Or maybe just stay top-of-mind with your list?
Be specific. Write it down. When you know your goal, everything else gets easier.
Step 2: Choose the Right Tactics for That Goal
Once you know what you want, now you can pick the best tools to get there.
If your goal is brand awareness — meaning you want more people to know who you are and what you do — you might:
- Share short, helpful posts on LinkedIn once a week
- Send a monthly email with “quick links” to helpful resources
- Run an evergreen nurture campaign to stay visible all year
If your goal is lead generation — turning interested people into contacts — then:
- Offer a quick checklist or guide your perfect customer will find useful
- Follow up automatically when someone downloads it
- Include a clear next step — a meeting link, demo, or free trial
If your goal is sales conversion — helping ready-to-buy prospects take the next step — you might:
- Send a short email sequence of case studies or success stories
- Add a “book a call” link in every email
- Reach out to hot leads and your dream 25 or 100
See how each goal has its own recipe? That’s the key. I made a quick video about this recently so watch now to find out more. >>
Step 3: Keep It Simple
Don’t try to do every marketing thing at once. Start small. Pick one goal and three tactics to support it.
I always tell my clients: do less, sell more. When you focus, you get results.
Step 4: Review and Repeat
Every quarter, take a peek at your progress. What worked? What didn’t? Adjust and keep going.
That’s how you turn marketing from a random to-do list into a simple, repeatable system that actually grows your business.
